agree with is the preoccupation our society puts on sport. Compared to “real” life, everything is out of kilter in sport - the wages, the media coverage, the excesses many athletes indulge in.

Oh, boy, Bob. My thoughts exactly. While I don’t have the injuries (thanks to the sport I do - swimming) I nonetheless wonder what could have been if I’d devoted more time to study earlier (I got a PhD at 52). That said, I have enjoyed my sport. But what I most agree with is the preoccupation our society puts on sport. Compared to “real” life, everything is out of kilter in sport - the wages, the media coverage, the excesses many athletes indulge in.
